Sphynx cats lack a fur coat, making them more sensitive to temperature changes.
Keep your home comfortably warm, and provide cozy spots for them to cuddle. During colder months, consider using pet-safe clothing.
-
Due to their lack of fur, Sphynx cats are susceptible to sunburn. Apply a pet-safe sunscreen to exposed areas, especially when they are exposed to sunlight.
Another solution is to have your cat wear light clothes and hat to cover from the sun exposure.
Please do not keep your Sphynx cat outdoors and exposed to sun for long!
-
Sphynx cats require regular baths to remove excess oils that accumulate on their skin. Use a gentle cat shampoo, and be sure to dry them thoroughly to prevent chilling.
Some owners prefer to lather their Sphynx in coconut oil before the bath to help remove excess oil from the cat. User discretion is advised, and please consult your vet.
-
Sphynx cats often have large ears that may accumulate wax. Clean their ears regularly with a veterinarian-recommended ear cleaning solution to prevent infections.
-
Trim your Sphynx cat's nails regularly to prevent scratching. Provide scratching posts to fulfill their natural behavior.
Clean your Sphynx nails often as they accumulate dirt and debris since there is no fur to help deter the gathering
-
Monitor their skin for any signs of irritation or dryness. Consult your veterinarian if you notice any unusual changes, and consider using pet-safe moisturizers as recommended.
-
Feed your Sphynx cat a balanced, high-quality cat food. Consult with your veterinarian to determine the appropriate diet based on their age, weight, and health condition.
-
Ensure your Sphynx stays well-hydrated. Provide fresh water at all times, and consider wet cat food to contribute to their overall fluid intake
-
Schedule regular veterinary check-ups to monitor their health, address any concerns, and keep vaccinations up to date
-
Sphynx cats are known for their affectionate nature. Spend quality time playing, cuddling, and engaging with your cat to fulfill their social needs
-
Provide soft, warm bedding for your Sphynx to snuggle into. They may appreciate heated beds or blankets, especially in cooler climates
-
Stimulate your Sphynx mentally and physically with toys, climbing structures, and interactive play. They enjoy engaging activities that challenge their intelligence
